Background

The story

For the 2025 Italian Grand Prix, Ferrari marked the 50th anniversary of Niki Lauda's first world title, which he clinched at Monza on 7 September 1975 in the 312 T. Charles Leclerc's helmet for the weekend was a tribute to Lauda's design: all red, in a darker, metallic shade than his usual colours, with his name on the sides in white in the same lettering as Lauda's helmet.

Instead of the Scuderia shield, the front carried the Prancing Horse emblem seen on Ferrari road cars, and his number 16 sat in a white plate on top, crossed by a thin Italian tricolour stripe. Leclerc finished fourth in the race.

Born in Monte Carlo on 16 October 1997, Leclerc won the GP3 title in 2016 and Formula 2 in 2017 before his 2018 F1 debut with Sauber. He joined Ferrari in 2019 and won at Monza that year and again in 2024.
