Background

The story

In 1978 Fiat went for a second consecutive World Rally Championship title with Walter Röhrl and Markku Alén, its works driver since 1974. In Portugal Alén fought the Fords of Björn Waldegård and Hannu Mikkola, and won the rally on the 46th and final special stage.

The 131 Abarth Rally was built in a cooperation between Fiat, Bertone and Abarth; 400 road examples were made in 1976 for homologation.
