Background
The story
The E30 M3 was presented at the 1985 Frankfurt Motor Show and built from March 1986 to June 1991. Its S14 four-cylinder combined a head closely based on the S38 six-cylinder with the block of the M10, revved to 7,250 rpm and produced 195 PS with a catalytic converter or 200 PS without. BMW built 17,970 in all.
It was built to win touring car races, and it did: the World Touring Car Championship in 1987, the European title in 1987 and 1988, five Nürburgring 24 Hours and four Spa 24 Hours. Prodrive-prepared rally versions were most effective on asphalt and won the 1987 Tour de Corse with Bernard Béguin.
