Background

The story

Fiat launched the Nuova 500 in July 1957 as a cheap, practical small car. At 2,970 mm long, with a rear-mounted 479 cc air-cooled two-cylinder engine, it is considered one of the first purpose-designed city cars. In 1959 its designer, Dante Giacosa, received the Compasso d'Oro design prize.

The 500 D of 1960 to 1965 had a 499 cc engine and rear-hinged 'suicide' doors. From June 1965 the 500 F switched to front-hinged doors to meet new safety rules. Production of the 500 continued until 1975.

Solido's 1965 car is finished in a bi-colour 'Tribute to Italia' scheme.
