Background

The story

Ford introduced the Capri II on 25 February 1974. After 1.2 million first-generation cars and with the 1973 oil crisis in mind, Ford made it more practical, with a shorter bonnet, a larger cabin and a hatchback rear door giving access to a 630-litre boot. It was the first Ford with a hatchback.

The range ran from the 2.0-litre Pinto four up to the 2.3 and 3.0-litre V6s. In May 1976 the 3.0 GT gave way to the upmarket 3.0 S and Ghia versions, and the Capri II was replaced by the facelifted Mark III in 1978.
