Background
The story
Porsche launched the 911 3.2 Carrera in 1983 for the 1984 model year, replacing the successful SC and reviving the Carrera name for the first time since 1977. From outside it was almost indistinguishable from the SC, apart from fog lights built into the front valance.
The larger engine gave 231 PS in most markets and 207 PS in North America, and a Bosch Motronic DME system improved drivability, reliability and fuel economy. Autocar measured a top speed of 240 km/h.
The Carrera was sold as a coupé, Targa and cabriolet until 1989. A Commemorative Edition in 1988 marked 250,000 911s built, and an Anniversary edition followed in 1989.
