Background

The story

The McLaren MP4/4, designed under Steve Nichols and powered by Honda's RA168E 1.5-litre V6 turbo, is one of the most dominant Formula One cars ever. In 1988 it won 15 of the 16 races and took all but one pole position, with Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna at the wheel.

At Silverstone on 10 July 1988 Senna started third, behind the two Ferraris, and won the 65-lap race, his fourth win of the season, moving within six points of Prost. He went on to take eight wins and his first world title, three points ahead of his team-mate.
