Background

The story

McLaren ran the MCL39 in a special livery at Monaco and in Spain in 2025, inspired by the M7A, the first McLaren to wear papaya. Oscar Piastri arrived in Monaco leading the drivers' championship by 13 points from his teammate Lando Norris.

His weekend included a crash in second practice that brought out a red flag. Piastri qualified third and, in a race where every driver had to make at least two pit stops, finished third on 25 May behind Norris and Charles Leclerc.

Norris's win cut Piastri's lead to three points. Piastri took seven Grand Prix wins in 2025, including his first pole position in China, and finished third in a title fight with Norris and Max Verstappen.
