Background

The story

The Toleman TG184 was designed by Rory Byrne and Pat Symonds and powered by the four-cylinder turbocharged Hart 415T, giving about 600 bhp in 1984. It first raced at Dijon, and in only its second Grand Prix rookie Ayrton Senna took it to second place in the rain at Monaco.

At the British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch on 22 July 1984, Senna finished third in the TG184 behind Niki Lauda's McLaren and Derek Warwick's Renault. It was one of three podiums in Senna's debut season with Toleman.
