Background

The story

The E46 M3 was previewed as a concept at the 1999 Frankfurt show, and the production car was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2000. It was built at BMW's Regensburg factory from September 2000 to August 2006: 56,133 coupés and 29,633 convertibles.

Its 3.2-litre S54 straight-six, the final development of the naturally aspirated S50, produced 343 PS at 7,900 rpm and revved to 8,000 rpm, with individual throttle bodies for each cylinder. BMW quoted 0–100 km/h in 5.2 seconds for the coupé.
