Background

The story

The Peugeot 309 was built from 1985, conceived as a Talbot before being badged as a Peugeot. Its hottest factory version was the GTI 16, which used the 16-valve engine from the 405 Mi16 and was sold only in mainland Europe. Of the 1,635,132 309s built, only 5,896 were GTI 16s.

Dimma, a Belgian coachbuilder, made its name with a wide-body kit for the 205 GTI that Peugeot officially approved under Jean Todt. Dimma later supplied kits for Peugeot Sport's 306 Maxi and 206 Super 1600.

The "Kompressor" was a one-off. Dimma widened the body with a glass-fibre kit and added a supercharger, raising the 16-valve engine from 160 to 240 hp, all through the front wheels.
