Background

The story

In 2001 Honda launched the EP3 Civic Type R, a three-door hatchback built in Swindon, England. The European version had a 200 PS 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine (K20A2), a seam-welded body, a close-ratio six-speed gearbox and upgraded brakes. Swindon also built a sharper 215 PS version for Japan, with a helical limited-slip differential and red Recaro seats.

A 2003 update addressed feedback from owners and critics, bringing quicker electric power steering, revised suspension, a lighter clutch and flywheel, and projector headlamps.

2005 was the EP3's final production year. Honda marked it with the Premier Edition, which had red and black Recaro seats and a MOMO steering wheel.
