Background

The story

The 991-generation 911 GT2 RS was officially launched at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Its 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six produces 515 kW (700 PS) and 750 Nm, making it the most powerful production 911 built up to that point. It was the first GT2 with a dual-clutch gearbox, a 7-speed PDK. Porsche claimed 0–97 km/h in 2.7 seconds and 340 km/h flat out.

In late September 2017, Porsche test driver Lars Kern took a GT2 RS around the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6:47.3, averaging 184.11 km/h. It was the fastest lap by a production car at the time.

The record stood until July 2018, when the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ beat it. Porsche answered in October 2018, when Kern lapped in 6:40.33 in a GT2 RS MR prepared by Manthey Racing.
