Background

The story

The G90 M5 is based on the G60 5 Series and is BMW M's first plug-in hybrid saloon. A 4.4-litre twin-turbo S68 V8 works with an electric motor built into the 8-speed automatic gearbox, giving a combined 727 PS and 1,000 Nm.

The hybrid system made the car heavy: 2,435 kg in European specification, about 500 kg more than the previous F90 M5, which drew strong criticism. BMW still claims 0–100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, and the M xDrive all-wheel drive keeps a rear-wheel-drive-only mode.

The G90 made its global debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2024. Production began the same month at BMW's Dingolfing plant, and the car reached customers in November 2024.
