Nissan Skyline GT-R (BNR34) Z-Tune 1999 Midnight Purple

The R34 Skyline GT-R went on sale on 8 January 1999. Shorter than the R33, with a reduced front overhang, it was quick from the start: during testing at the Nürburgring Nordschleife that year, Nissan test driver Kazuo Shimizu set an unofficial 7:52 lap. Skyline GT-R production ended in August 2002.

Nismo showed the Z-tune concept at the 2000 Nismo Festival as a time-attack machine. For its 20th anniversary, Nismo bought used R34 GT-Rs with under 30,000 km, stripped them and rebuilt them by hand with a 2.8-litre 'Z2' engine rated at 500 PS and 540 Nm, Sachs suspension and Brembo brakes.

Nismo planned 20 cars but stopped at 19, including the prototype. Seventeen were resprayed in Z-tune Silver; one of the two left in their original colours was a V·spec in Midnight Purple III.
