Background

The story

Replaced at Ferrari by Lewis Hamilton for 2025, Carlos Sainz joined Williams to partner Alexander Albon, bringing four Grand Prix wins with him. The son of two-time World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz, he gave the FW47 its first run at its Silverstone launch on 14 February 2025, in a one-off camouflage livery.

His first race for the team was the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on 16 March 2025. Both Williams cars reached Q3, Albon qualifying sixth and Sainz tenth, but a torque issue sent Sainz into the wall and out of the race. Albon finished fifth, Williams' best result since the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix.

The season improved: Sainz finished third in Azerbaijan, Williams' first podium since 2021, and third again in Qatar, as the team had its best season since 2017.
